Guttman
and Pearl Associates provides individual psychotherapy, Imago
Relationship couples therapy and marriage counseling, sex therapy and
group
psychotherapy in Washington DC, suburban Maryland and Northern
Virginia. We are a group of psychologists, clinical social workers and
nurse practitioners with a broad base of experience treating anxiety,
depression,
and stress related to relationships, work, infidelity and sexual
problems. Our couples and marriage counseling is geared to enhance
intimacy and resolve conflicts. As a group practice we can coordinate
individual and couples therapy among our different providers.
IMAGO
RELATIONSHIP THERAPY
People begin to experience disconnection from their partners due to
communication problems, lack of understanding and acceptance, stresses
outside of the relationship, and decreasing passion. IMAGO couples and
marriage counseling, based on Harville Hendrix's theory and book, "Getting
the Love You Want", provides couples with communication tools to aid in
restoring closeness, passion, appreciation and support of each other. We
offer both private and group couples therapy.
|
INDIVIDUAL
THERAPY
People
often seek individual
treatment for anxiety
and depression and other mood disorders. Anxiety and depression can be
brought on by occupational stress, loss or tension in close
relationships, a geographic move, trauma, life transitions or chemical
imbalance . We tailor our work to each unique set of problems and
concerns. At Guttman and Pearl Associates we help people
to increase their
self-esteem, manage stress and anger, resolve parent-child or work
conflicts and strengthen the resilience of those raised in
dysfunctional families.
We also provide counseling for the deaf and hearing-impaired.

SEX
THERAPY
Seventy
five
to eighty percent of all adult males
and females experience sexual difficulties in their lives. These
include lack of desire, difficulty reaching orgasm, problems
maintaining arousal, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation,
vaginal pain and general sexual dissatisfaction.
These problems can be caused by anxiety and stress, lack of sexual
knowledge and/or experience, childhood trauma, relational difficulties,
and physical problems.
Sex therapy
never involves direct sexual
experience in the therapist's office. Through individual and couples
therapy, sex therapy helps people explore and understand the origin of
their sexual difficulties, provides specific knowledge about sexual
function and suggests methods to increase sexual satisfaction.
Guttman and Pearl has been providing sex
therapy to individuals and
couples since 1985.

CONSULTATION
FOR PROFESSIONAL THERAPISTS
Even
the best of therapists have questions or
difficulties with clients for whom they need consultation.
Case
consultation in a safe environment helps therapists to address their
questions, explore any personal issues, increase their self confidence
and widen their
theoretical
knowledge and practice. Clinicians will return to their
clients
with new insights and energy. Consultation is provided in
both
individual and group sessions, based on the theory and practice of
Imago Relationship Theory and when necessary sex therapy.
Additionally, eight session introductory groups in Imago therapy are
offered to therapists new to Imago work.
Continuing
education units are available both through the National
Association of Social Workers and Imago Relationships International.
